Sizwe (born Sizwe Jason Collins), of part Trinidadian blood and part Haitian, hails from Montreal – one of many metropolitan cities in Canada that is known for its strong support of Caribbean culture. Son of a local DJ and Band Leader, Sizwe knew from an early age that his natural calling was to represent the music he grew up with and loved so much.
Inspired by his participation and attendance at stage shows, Carnival fetes and other cultural events as a youngster, Sizwe was on pace to realize his dreams to become a Soca artist from as young as six years old. He has often said that his magical moment was seeing international superstar Machel Montano perform “Too Young to Soca” back in 1986 at Dimanche Gras. A fitting song that would also serve as his life’s prophesy.
Like many of today’s young artists, Sizwe proudly takes inspiration from some of the greatest of all time including The Mighty Sparrow, Byron Lee, Arrow as well as current chart-toppers like Kerwin Dubois, KES the Band, and Bunji Garlin. After spending a few years finding his voice as the Soca act in a Reggae group called Crucial, and as a celebrated member of Miami’s Super Soca Sound “Soca Bashment” alongside Dr. Esan, Sizwe’s first major release as a solo artist was in 2007 with “Rock Yah Boat.” That song was very well received by music lovers and peers in the industry alike, and immediately legitimized him as a Soca vocalist on the come up.
He followed up with the release of more songs including “Fiyah” and “Wine on You” which sparked bookings across North America and landed him a 2008 nomination at the ISA (International Soca Awards) for Best New Artist. Although he did not win the award, Sizwe was nominated again by the ISA in 2019 and took home the win for Florida Soca Artist of the Year for his collaboration with Keshav of JusNow Productions with a single titled “Give Me Some”.
Sizwe can best be described as a true Entertainer. Now residing in Miami, Florida, Sizwe is not slowing down for a minute. Always thinking outside the box and anchored with a mandate to keep Soca relevant for the incumbent generation. Noted for his passion, his action-inspiring delivery and sharp lyrics, his music is by definition as Soca as it gets. Positioned to work with some of the most respected and talented producers of the genre, Sizwe is set to take the airwaves by storm with his many hits like Wine On You, Hush and Wine, Hands in the Air (H.I.A), Country Love, Give Me Some and currently preparing to release a new single titled “MELANINAIRE”. A celebration of women of color! Produced by Alvin James of Boom Productions and resident WeBIG ent producer.
